untitled

No great catches to report, Whiting, Pouting, Flounder and a Dog Fish. All fish returned.

We started 6.30am with Cliff’s first cast landing him a Pouting. This we thought was a good sign and carried on pulling fish regular until top of the tide 11.00am. Things were less quite for me, even though we were fishing side-by-side using the same rigs n bait, Squid, Mackerel and Herring.

The plan was to start fishing without worm, untill the tackle shop opened. But as time went by, other anglers, fishing not to far away, where Blanking with Lug n Rag being used. So we thought it would be a waste of money purchasing Worm.

In the middle of the morning a Shrimp netter came and dropped his net along side of us. A bit of Cracc developed and soon others came and joined in. I got a mug full of small Shrimp and loaded my rig, Heypresto I caught a Doggie. This was to be the biggest fish of the day.

Fishermen came and went, stories of Blanking and the odd Pouting n Whiting being landed, but most went home empty handed.

In the middle of the afternoon we saw what we thought was the reason for fish being scarce. A small Seal swimming around the area, poping his head out of the sea, here n there.  Hungry and alone, with no sign of adult seals, he was taking advantage of what was out there.

Taking a page out of the Shrimp Netters book I lowered the landing net, with the remains of the Mackerel bait attatched to the sea bed, tying the other end to the railings of the pier. Catching plenty of live bait but no fish. I did manage to catch enough for a boil, which I enjoyed that night.

As the evening darkened we were given a show of Fireworks for 2 hours, with a display all along the coast. If your ever in the area on a Guy Fawkes evening, take a walk along Gorleston Pier.

After a round road trip of seven hours + twelve hours fishing, I was exhausted but happy, as I had been Sea Fishing.
