Holmpton

Beneath the Cliff Face 19th October 2004

Arriving at Hull our first port of call was the Bacon Banjo Café, I great English breakfast, to set us up for the day. Then calling into A&D Tackle, Mark as usual was ready to help with bait and the latest catch reports. Even though we had not ordered any, I’d recommend ordering in advance.

Well we had a good day, started fishing 8.30am, top of the tide. Soon the Whiting started coming in, not after every cast but between the two of us.

Four others joined us, one to the right and three to the left. In all Whiting was showing up to 1¼lb. As we all followed the tide down there was no Cod showing but at low tide the lad to right of me pulled in a Bass of 1½lb. This got us all excited, but to no avail as the only thing to be caught after low and on the start of the flood was one very small Flattie and a Rockling. As time reach 5.30pm and darker clouds approaching it was time to clear and tidy up. Up those muddy cliffs with all your kit is harder than going down. Making it back to the car, changing out of our fishing gear, just in time as the heavens opened as it started to Pissit down.

The weather started with a southerly breeze, warm with the odd short shower. Later in the day the wind increased with Tripods and Tackle taking a tumble, now and again.

A good days fishing and now we feel that we are ready for when those Winter Cod come.

See you on the Beach.
