My Mate Jock's SmoothoundsFishy1 (Jock)
Had to let u know about my catch I was right chuffed, 6 "starry smoothhounds, 5 from 4.5lbs to 7.5lbs and 1 of 10.5lbs (these have white spots along the back) and 1 more that I was told by other anglers was "a juvanile tope" but after seeing T.S.F page 18 I think it was a "common smoothie" (didn't know there was different ones,) it must have been about 12 + lbs as my scales are only 11lb (tested) and it hit this mark with a thump, others agreed with this estimate. anyway m8 the big ones were P.B's for me.
Moggs Eye Lincolnshire friday 2nd July. very light westerly wind, sea calm,H/W 7-15pm (approx) fished 4pm till 9-15pm,started getting bites about 5pm, 7 smoothhounds landed another lost at waters edge and 6 good bites missed, rig an up and over with 3ft hook length 3/0-2/0 pen, bait fresh peeler crab, photo's the 1 on sand with white spotted back, "starry smoothhound" 10-1/2lb, 1 hanging on hook "starry" 4-1/2lb, 1 on sand no spots a "common smoothhound" 12+lbs, so the starry and common were personal bests for me.

Well it looks like you had a good session at Moggs Eye, and with a PB, we'll have to have a celebration the next time we get together.

Pwllheli North Wales, mark, Gimlet Rock or at least 200yards west (right) of same, date, 21/06/04, tide, H/W about 1300hrs, rig, up and over clip down (for distance), 3ft trace with 3/0-2/0 pen hooks, bait, frozen sandeels, weather sunny, sea, calm. I started fishing 0930 first 2 fish were dogs, never caught such small ones only 18ins, then at 1030 my rod (not using butt cups) suddenly balanced it's self on top my rod rest parrallel with the beach, luckly I was sat next to it and caught it by the butt above my head, the ensuing fight ended with a 9lb thornie on the beach a P/B, 2 more doggies and a flattie ended the session, but I returned at 2300 same day and caught 2 spotted rays of 4lb, a first for me, being careless cost me 2 more I missed seeing the bites and on retreave 20mins later found the hook lengths chafed through and the hooks gone, I blame the dark.
