Lowestoft Sunday 29th August 2004Lowestoft Sunday 29th August 2004
A 2.30am pickup from my house was arranged, as an early start to fishing was planed. Another 300mile + round trip for a days sea fishing.
On the road, talk was of anticipated catch results and end tackle for the job. Arriving just out side Kings Lynn at a service station, Dos Cappuccino Pour far vour was the order, as we were still talking Tic Tacs.
Arriving at Lowestoft we decided to find the tackle shop we had ordered bait from. Even though it was not to open until 8am later that morning. Sam Hook is a well-stocked bait and tackle shop in Lowestoft.

Finding the venue was no great problem, we just followed our noses and fishy sense onto what can be called a large concrete pier/harbour walk way. Driving straight on we came across two chaps with ropes hanging over the walls, they were using drop nets with scraps of old fish, catching shrimps from the harbour and seaside of the pier walls. We ask where would be the best place to fish from, pointing further up the pier next to some Vertical light structures they told us was the best place and the least snaggy.

This was an easy sea fishing venue, straight out the back of the car. Setting up the kit, it was not to long before the weights and baited hooks were heading seaward. Other anglers were then starting to arrive and as usual meeting folks with the same interest soon started a gathering with laughter and fishing stories from afar. This was not a planed meeting, it just happens when anglers get together. High Tide 9.15am and Low at 4pm this was a venue where you can fish all states of the tide.

Soon rods started to nod as some were bringing small whiting and pouting ashore. Also small Smoothhounds were caught, 6” to 8”. Looking along the line every one caught fish. As the day progressed anglers were coming and going, no great fish were caught but everyone enjoyed what they did catch, all fish were returned.

We fished from 7am till 6pm, another good venue and experience, meeting anglers, some on holiday, some up for a few hours fishing and others that had travelled far.
A good day was had, then clearing up as the night anglers started arriving with eyes smiling when told there was fish to be caught.
They may not have been big, but they were fish, for once we didn’t blank.

We Had Nothing to Declare
This venue feels it could be well worth a visit in the Winter
