Sea Trek
The mini bus departed our house 2.30am, heading for Whitby and a meeting with Stu, skipper of the Charter Boat Sea Trek TNG. A 50 /50 chance of getting out was confirmed on the Friday night, if the winds stayed South West to Westerly.
Arriving shortly after 5am and parking the bus on the park next to the Charter Boats, on the south bank. The crack started about the double figure Cod, 4’ Ling and a big bag of Mackerel. 6am approached so we made our walk to the tackle shop for those last minute rigs, bits and bobs.
Stu arrived on the car park 6.30am, uttering those dreaded words, No chance of getting out as the winds were increasing and moving to a North Westerly then to a North at 18 up to 25. All of us muttering but, but , but. The skipper then turned and said, if you want a Rock N Roll ride I’ll take your money, but you won’t thank me for it, save your money and we’ll sort out another day, later in the year. OK Skipper, we all cried, with disappointment in our voices, another day it will be.
After mutterings of another trip called off because of the weather I called out, lets go to Bills Café and have a Full English Breakfast, with the Societies money. With all in agreement we trundled over the bridge, to the Café, where all devoured a hearty breakfast. With having another mug of tea or coffee, talk turned to the future with positive actions promised of catching double figure Cod, 4’ Ling and a big bag of Mackerel.
Time for the return journey, with loads of banter in the bus, and then it turned to loads of ZZZzzzzZZZZzzzz coming from the back of the bus.
At this point I felt an urge to sing, “Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Whitby” then came the roar from the back of the bus. F*****G Shut UP.
Well it’s a long way to go for a breakfast, but that’s sea fishing.
