Southwold Suffolk 21st August 2004
The alarm was set for 2.30am, early rise, flask to fill then the kit to put outside the door. Ready for Cliff to pick me up at 3.30am. We were on the road again with a 300 mile round trip in front of us. Southwold here we come. Talk again about what to expect with Bass being the main target, but reality is we were going to have a good day no matter what.
Arriving at the venue it was quiet with no one about, so a walk down the river side to the mouth and a look where to set up. It was decided that we will fish to the left of the river Blyth Mouth, on the beach.

We then could fish into the river later where spinning for Bass could be possible. Casting into the sea anticipation was high with what we were hoping to catch. We started fishing at 8am with high tide at 2.30pm. As the morning progressed the beach started to fill with Daystrippers. With the usual visit and questions from onlookers the world was put to right and a few kiddies wanting to know when they could go fishing with their dads. If some of those young ones get inspiration from watching us fishing then we will see them on the beach, in the future. No knocking, or nibbles it was to be a quiet morning. At midday break was had.
With the tide racing in it was time to try the river, Lures, Spinners and baited hooks were used but to no avail, on the south side of the river a lone fisher man, with a small spinning rod, was spinning and catching bass. He was trolling up and down, from what looked like a well weather and sea battered dangerous jetty.

At the beach end it looked like it was fenced off to stop people accessing it. Well his success was putting us to shame as again we failed to temp the fish. 5pm we decided to clear and tidy up then head into Southwold town for some well earned Fish n Chips.
Arriving at the Fish n Chip shop was to be another knock, as the fire brigade was doing their job, the fat fryers had gone up in flames.

How much can an angler take, first no fish, then no chips. A double Blanking session to the extreme.
Further up the coast, at Pakefield, we would stop for Fish n Chips and enjoy them looking out along the beach from the car park.

Our journey home was talk of Whitby in a fortnight where fishing for Cod and Ling, from the charter boat would hopefully bring better results. Come on September.
