Whitby Fishing Festival

( July 2004 )

Desford SAS's day onboard The Heather of Burnham.

Taking part in the Whitby Fishing Festival

Cliff Moulds

The Whitby Fishing Festival July 3rd 2004

Desford Sea Angling Society booked onboard the Heather of Burnham for a days fishing and hopefully one of the prizes.

The day started dry but breezy with the car park full of anticipating anglers chattering about the great catches that were hopefully to come. Leaving, between the piers, a flotilla of boats all heading towards their favourite fishing areas, but the boats were not to venture far today as the wind was knocking up those white horse we boat anglers hate.

Just as the other boats seamed to have disappeared we heard the skipper shout, get your baited rigs ready as the sound of engine started to fade. Rods and lines out, we were fishing. Soon the fish started to come onboard and the smiles, laughter and chatter all increased. We all caught fish and were ready, with a positive attitude, for the rest of the day.

Cliff Moulds was to win the kitty for the biggest fish of the day, 9lb 12oz Ling. Steve Woods was to have the fullest box and John E was to catch  the biggest Cod, 6lb 3ozs.

On the day Cod, Ling, Pouting, Whiting and lots of Mackerel were caught so a good days fishing was enjoyed by all.

The Desford Sea Angling Society was not to win a big Fish prize at the Festival, but Cliff Moulds did come close, loosing out by just a couple of ounces. Well we did have one of the lads facing the chance of winning a prize.

At the end of the day,  Ooops that lucky John E done it again, his winning ticket came out of the prize ticket draw, winning him First Prize of a Stainless Steel Flask and a Large Number of Muppets.

Driving home, in the mini bus, every one was singing `My Dinga Ling My Dinga Ling` fading to lots of ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Another days fishing afloat ended but all will be looking forward to the next trip at Rhyl, next month.

Watch this space.
